Branxton Substation – Concrete Slab and Hebel Firewall

Project Description

SUBS Construction delivered reinforced concrete infrastructure and a fire-rated Hebel wall system as part of a critical upgrade to Ausgrid’s Branxton substation.

The works were completed within a tight program inside a live switchyard environment, where careful planning and coordination were essential. Controlled demolition, vibration monitoring, strict minimum safe approach distances and detailed construction sequencing were implemented to protect existing electrical assets and maintain uninterrupted network operations.

Scope of Works

  • Demolition and reconstruction of approximately 220 square metres of reinforced concrete slab

  • Construction of circuit breaker footings

  • Construction of structural steel support footings

  • Replacement of ten high-voltage TSB-encased electrical conduits

  • Manufacture and installation of a fire-rated Hebel wall

  • Installation of the associated structural steel support system

  • Construction of approximately 250 metres of concrete cable chase

  • Bulk excavation to establish the new bund level

  • Saw cutting and controlled demolition of existing concrete

  • Removal of existing footings using controlled methods

  • Installation of embedded earthing components

  • Removal and reinstatement of substation yard gravel

  • CCTV inspection of installed conduits

  • Monitoring and management of construction vibration
